Weekend Family Fun - Fairy Tale Village at Crown Center

Friday, June 16, 2023

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk among the pages and characters of your favorite fairy tale books? Well, Crown Center is offering its newest free interactive exhibit and it's called Fairy Tale Village. This thrilling display features larger than life characters from such classics as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and so many more!

Last weekend we took advantage of a rainy Sunday afternoon and headed down to Crown Center for a little family fun. We stopped at Sea Life first and discovered some new aquatic exhibits. After that, it was lunch at Spin. Then we played inside Fairy Tale Village. I know that McKinley is getting a little too old for these exhibits, but he has a blast every time we go! He hit the ground running. Okay, not running because there is no running allowed inside the village. But he did scatter like wild fire to and fro throughout the figurative pages of these sweet tales. The little pigs house and a big bad wolf lodged in the chimney. Across bridges with scary ogres. Creeping along the mysterious forest only to find Little Red Robin Hood. And then finding her grandmother in the wardrobe! Inside Maleficent's castle. Finding the beanstalk to the giants hut. Being Pinocchio's puppet master. And taking a ride in Cinderella's coach! Well, sitting in the coach is more like it.

I had an equal amount of fun just watching him play. It's always a nice change of pace when he's being imaginative versus immersed in video games or YouTube. Immersed in hands-on learning and play is always the better choice, no?

It's Friday which means it's the weekend! If you are looking for something new or fun to do this weekend, head on down! Fairy Tale Village is open until September 4th. Head here to get all the additional info!

Fairy Tale Village - Crown Center Exhibit

Monday, February 17, 2020

I love when a new year rolls around. Not because of the resolutions. To start over. Try something new. It means it's the return of the free interactive exhibits at Crown Center! And they are kicking things off with their Fairy Tale Village! We visited Sea Life earlier in the day, but after lunch, we headed down to the this larger than life interactive exhibit and dove right in!

My husband made a comment that McKinley might be getting too big for this, but that didn't seem to be the case after he was let loose. He was crossing bridges, climbing Rapunzel's hair, and pulling Pinocchio's strings to make the wooden boy come to life. We hope to head back soon, and on a less crowded afternoon, so he can take advantage of more time to play and explore!

Take a look at how much fun it can be to live and play in a Fairy Tale Village!

Don't worry, Rapunzel, McKinley will save you!

Hey look, it's the eight dwarf, Cutie!!

He told me he couldn't climb the beanstalk because he didn't have the right shoes on.....

The exhibit is currently open until May 3rd. It's the perfect winter, rainy, no school, need to get out and work out the wiggles outing! Get all the info here!

Crown Center: Trivia Pursuit 50 State Adventure Exhibit

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Yesterday McKinley planned our entire day which took place all over Crown Center. His original idea was to create art at Kaleidoscope, but with the new hands-on exhibit, Trivia Pursuit 50 State Adventure Exhibit now open, we began there. These exhibits are always amazing fun and this one didn't disappoint.

Have you been to all 50 states in the United States? Do you know what each state is known for? Well I haven't stepped foot in them all and I certainly don't know what each one is known for. Sure, Michigan is for the Great Lakes. New York is known for the Statue of Liberty. Pennsylvania for the Liberty Bell. But there is so much more! For instance, did you know Arkansas was known for their quilts? Nevada for stargazing? I would have thought the Vegas Strip or Hoover Dam. And the information keeps coming!

There are tons of interactive attractions like kayaking, row boating with fishing, cross country skiing, hot air ballooning, and playing games on the Jersey Shore boardwalk which was probably my favorite. I love that each station lists the state, what they are known for, and other fun facts. It's an education for everyone! It also lists each states capital, something I know I'm horrible with! And it allows everyone to take a trip across the country and get a taste of each state without having to spend the money on travel. However, it leaves me wanting to visit each one. Can you say bucket list!

Here are some photos from our fun trip across the country!

This is definitely on my long list of summer things to do!

Even though there is a space museum located in Alabama, McKinley doesn't know that we are going to take him to DC next week to visit the Air and Space Museum, along with so many other things. Definitely a thumbs up!!

If you haven't been yet, head down to Crown Center and experience all the fun things our country has to offer. I have a feeling we will be making several trips and that's totally fine with me. I can learn more, see a little more each time, and hope that some of the knowledge soaks in for McKinley when it comes time for Geography!
